मदर्स प्राइड कॉन्वेंट स्कूल में झुमे बच्चे
शिव कलोनी स्थित मदर्स प्राइड कॉन्वेंट स्कूल में जूनियर वर्ग की एकल नृत्य प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन आज किया गया। इस प्रतियोगिता में करीब 98 प्रतिभागियों ने भाग लिया। उक्त जानकारी देते हुए अशोक कथूरिया ने बताया कि इस दौरान बच्चों ने एक से बढ़कर एक नृत्य की प्रस्तुति दी। अनेक मौके पर बच्चों ने दर्शकों को आश्चर्यचकित कर दिया तथा अपने साथ झुमने को मजबुर कर दिया। नृत्य के दौरान बच्चों ने अनेक ऐसे स्टप प्रस्तुत किए जोकि उन्हें बड़ों के समक्ष खड़ा कर रहे थे। गानों के बोल के साथ प्रतिभागियों के थिरकते कदम पूरे महौल को कलात्मक बना रहे थे। बच्चों ने देशभक्ति से ओत-प्रोत गानों के अलावा अनेक फिल्मी व मनोरंजक गानों पर भी अपनी कला का प्रदर्शन किया। इस दौरान प्रतिभागियों द्वारा काफी आकर्षक पोशाके पहनी हुई थी। जोकि पूरे माहौल को एक अलग लुक दे रही थी। इससे पहले सीनियर वर्ग की एकल नृत्य प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन हुआ। दोनों प्रतियोगिताओं में विजेता प्रतिभागियों को स्कूल के निर्देशक व प्रचार्या द्वारा पुरस्कृत किया गया।

काव्य पाठ शनिवार को
स्टार स्ट्रगल ग्रुप द्वारा शनिवार को अनाज मंडी में काव्य पाठ समारोह का आयोजन किया जाएगा। उक्त जानकारी देते हुए गोबिंद सोनी ने बताया कि इस दौरान गिरते समाजिक मूल्यों पर दिनेश गोयल, हितैष सिंगला, हिमांशु सिंगला व रोहित गर्ग द्वारा काव्य पाठ किया जाएगा।

The Great Stone Face-I
1. (i) What was the Great Stone Face?
Answer: There was a hill near the village. Seen from a distance it resembled a human face. People believed that the Great Stone Face used to bless the village with fertile land and overall happiness.
(ii) What did young Ernest wish when he gazed at it?
Answer: Young Ernest wished the old story to come true. As per the gospel a person was supposed to be born with likeness of the Great Stone Face. He was supposed to do good for the village.
2. What was the story attributed to the Stone Face?
Answer: There was an old prophecy which said that a child would be born somewhere nearby and would become the noblest person. Its face would resemble that of the Great Stone Face.
3. What gave the people of the valley the idea that the prophecy was about to come true for the first time?
Answer: A person named Gathergold left the village at younger age. With great business acumen he became filthily rich. He was returning to the village to spend his twilight years. People believed that he must be the incarnation of the Great Stone Face. People may have been expecting Gathergold to part with his riches for villager’s benefit that is why villagers eagerly waited for his arrival.
4. (i) Did Ernest see in Gathergold the likeness of the Stone Face?
Answer: Ernest could see a shrewd old man in Gathergold. There was no resemblance with the Great Stone Face.
(ii) Who did he confide in and how was he proved right?
Answer: Ernest confided in the Great Stone Face as usual. When Gathergold’s gold withered away, people lost interest in him. People started doubting his resemblance to the Great Stone Face. Thus Ernest was proved right.

Answer: General Blood-and-Thunder was a heroic soldier. He fought and won many battles. Stories of his bravery made people think him to be the incarnation of the Great Stone Face.

Answer: Ernest was not convinced with the General’s face as well. He was still waiting for the prophecy to come true.

Answer: The poet was a master of his craft. He wrote soul stirring poems and was famous. Ernest was moved after reading his poem. So, he thought the poet to be like the Great Stone Face.

ENGLISH आठवीं- A VISIT TO CAMBRIDGE

A Visit to Cambridge
1. (i) Did the prospect of meeting Stephen Hawking make the writer nervous? If so, why?
Answer: When normal people meet disabled people they tend to look sympathetic and give advice to have courage. The author was fed up of this attitude of normal people. He was apprehensive that some of the assistants of Professor Hawking may show same attitude. That is why he was nervous.
(ii) Did he at the same time feel very excited? If so, why?
Answer: Stephen Hawking is a celebrity because of his startling discoveries in astrophysics. Anybody can become excited at the prospect of meeting such a celebrity.
2. Guess the first question put to the scientist by the writer.
Answer: The likely first question put by the author can be as follows, "You mast have been brave to overcome your physical disability".
Professor Hawking’s statement that he was not brave rather it was compulsion for him to live with his disability indicates towards this.
3. Stephen Hawking said, "I’ve had no choice." Does the writer think there was a choice? What was it?
Answer: The author thinks disable people do get a choice. And that choice is to live creatively in spite of the obstacle of your disability. Once a disable person accepts defeat he will always be a burden for himself and for others. But if in spite of the disability he tries to excel in his chosen field then he becomes an asset for himself as well as for society. He should always be positive that he can also contribute towards his society.
4. "I could feel his anguish." What could be the anguish?
Answer: Stephen Hawking’s body is unable to keep pace with his vibrant mind. His mind is faster at thinking newer and newer ideas, while his body allows him to express his thoughts at a much slower pace. It must be like dreaming to fly only to find that somebody has clipped your wings. Anybody will feel the anguish and frustration in such situations.
5. What endeared the scientist to the writer so that he said he was looking at one of the most beautiful men in the world?
Answer: The way the author empathized with the scientist made him feel happy from inside. The fact that author was a little bit like Stephen Hawking also helped in matching their wavelengths. As a result there was a smile on Hawking’s face.
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, is a very old saying. The definition of beauty varies as per situation and subject. The weak, pale and disable scientist may not look beautiful at all through conventional angle. But the radiance of intelligence and self-satisfaction of attaining so much in terms of discovery make Stepehn Hawking on of the most beautiful men in the world.
6. Read aloud the description of ‘the beautiful’ man. Which is the most beautiful sentence in the description?
Answer: The sentence describing the inner glow of Hawking’s personality which makes his physical looks irrelevant is probably one of the most beautiful descriptions of beauty.

Answer: The physical body is the ‘wall’ of the ‘lantern’
(ii) What is housed within the thin walls?
Answer: Within the thin walls of the ‘lantern’ is nothing but light which has the power to enlighten you.
(iii) What general conclusion does the writer draw from this comparison?
Answer: Everyone is a distinct soul and the soul is our true identity. The physical body is just like an accessory playing the supporting role.
8. What is the scientist’s message for the disabled?
Answer: Professor Hawking’s message for the disabled was that they should do things at which they are good.
9. Why does the writer refer to the guitar incident? Which idea does it support?
Answer: The writer was trying a thing he was not naturally inclined to do. It led to unnecessary embarrassment and waste of time for him. The incidence supports the advice given by Hawking.

This poem is about a duck and a kangaroo. The duck is getting bored of swimming
all day in its small pond. It wonders at the magnificent hopping skills of the
kangaroo. The duck asks the kangaroo if it can take a ride on kangaroo’s back and
see the whole world in doing so. The duck promises that it will sit quietly and not utter a single word except quack. This statement is somewhat hilarious because all the
word a duck can say is quack.
The kangaroo is apprehensive of getting cold because of wet feet of the duck. The
duck has already found a solution to this. It says that it has brought a woolen socks
to wear. The socks will help kangaroo protect against the feared cold. The duck has
also brought a sweater and would smoke cigar to keep away the cold.
Now the kangaroo is convinced and ready to let the duck take a piggy-back ride. It
allows the duck to sit still on its tail.
Finally their joyride begins and they encircle the earth three times!.
